The Vineyards: Treenbrook & OV
In 1999 the first vines were planted at the OV vineyard in a North-South orientation to ensure maximum light interception. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet were planted first, followed by Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Viognier in 2000.
Both the OV and Treenbrook vineyards are nestled amongst picturesque Karri and Jarrah forest, where the gentle undulating landscape, temperate climate and rich gravelly loam soils produce fruit of exceptional quality.
Our philosophy regarding production is simple, and that is to operate in a manner that consciously respects the vineyard that we tend as well as the environment and the quality fruit we strive to grow.
We use minimal chemical inputs, minimal fertilisers, and minimal intervention as we are aiming for vine balance. The vines at Yeagarup are all trellised using Vertical Shoot Position (VSP), and are spur-pruned with the exception of a couple of newer blocks of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that are cane pruned.
Spur-pruning helps to ensure that the spur spacing results in the correct shoot spacing in the canopy, which in turn leads to well-exposed leaves and fruit. This results in us obtaining the optimum balance between leaves, canes and bunches.
Divided into 11 distinct blocks the 37.9ha of Vineyards are made up of the following varieties:
7.0ha Pinot Noir – Cane and Spur blocks
12.1ha Sauvignon Blanc - Spur
7.8ha Chardonnay – Cane and Spur blocks
2.0ha Semillon - Spur
1.0ha Viogner - Spur
8.0ha Caberenet Sauvignon - Spur
